Sourcing
OVER 30 GEMSTONES
Our passion for gemstones and our expertise as gemmologists has guided us in our quest to find the finest gemstones in East-Africa since 1983. In our search, we have owned and operated a dozen gemstone mines throughout Tanzania and still mine to this day the largest deposit of chrysoprase in the country.
Each gemstone in our collection has been sourced either from our mines or directly from small scale miners ensuring authenticity and traceability. This process allows us to have a direct positive impact on the mining communities involved at the source.

TRACEABILITY
By operating our own mines or working directly with small-scale miners, we’ve been able to maintain full traceability of each gemstone in our collection. This has always been important to us as we have witnessed over the years most African gemstones being marketed internationally without certainty of their origin. We certify the source of each gem we offer.
AUTHENTICITY
It is easy to confuse gemstones, especially when discovering a new deposit or when several precious stones can be found in the same region or mine. Our expertise as gemmologists allows us to accurately identify each stone in our collection. This way we ensure the authenticity of the gems we offer to our clients. All our gems come with a certificate of authenticity.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We provide safe working conditions to our miners, provide stable employment and fair pay. When sourcing directly from small-scale miners, we make sure that none of our gemstones come from conflict zones, unsafe work environments and unscrupulous middle men.
We support our local communities situated around our mining licenses through social development projects, financing the construction of classrooms, scholarships, classroom materials and investing in access to clean water.
By choosing Lithos Africa you have a direct impact on the people behind each gem.
